Help with the floor in the run?

True that! That’s what I do in winter I get snow and it gets somewhat wet so I will turn it on sunny days. The heat from the composte effect I can tell they like the warmth. I keep 2 corners of my run like that all the time. They scratch and dig when they’re locked in. Helps with bordem too. I just rake the piles back up. I deep litter inside their little coop in winter too. Heck I probably learned that from you. If so Thanks! Lol I’m old and have slept since then :bow

Just thinking she might have to put some kind of kick boards around the bottom for deep litter. Dunno...looks like MJK has a nice tidy yard (best I can tell from the pics)

Thanks!! I read a bit about the deep litter method. I’m just so overwhelmed right now! I’m hoping it will just all fall into place. I guess I will learn what’s best as I go along.

I get it. People do for their pets in all different kinds of ways. Chickens are so different than dogs, cats etc.
the fact your asking questions, have a lovely pen and well...just care speaks volumes. I was surprised most by how each has a very distinct personality and how much they can bond to you. Your going to do fine and you’ll be a great chic-momma. Just wait until you get your first egg!!! Take Care....God Bless :frow

I wouldn't put sand in the pen cause all that will happen is that those little rocks will all come to the surface and make it harder to pick up the poo. If you want to go with sand, the playground variety is what works best for a friend of mine. She uses a plastic stall fork with a piece of 1/2 inch hardware cloth wired to it, so the poo stay on the fork while the sand filters thru it. Just pull the rock out before you put in the sand
