Help with wire size & gauge

Trying to decide what wire to use for the chicken run outside the attached coop. Had intended to used 1 x 1/2 19G but it is quite expensive, has anyone used larger and had predator issues? I'm afraid a coon could reach through 1 x 1, although my hens are secured in the solid coop at night. I don't want to sacrifice security.

This is a link to a thread going on now that discusses several kinds of wire. I am sure a search in the coop and run section would be productive as well.

There is a lot of difference in what is available in different areas, and local pricing.
