My Olive Egger is 25 weeks old, just started laying about 3 weeks ago. As her comb grew larger and redder, it began to fold over on itself. Is this normal? I read it can be an indication of illness so now I'm worrying. Shes active, alert, eating and drinking normally. No signs of respiratory illness and poop looks normal. She is smaller and more petite than my Cuckoo Marans pullet of the same age who is very close to laying now with a big, red comb and wattles. Still, even my Marans comb is starting to tilt over as it grows. I live in Florida and it's summer if that means anything. They have access to water and lots of shade. She lays every single day ever since she first started.

Flopped over combs are normal in many birds especially those with Mediterranean DNA. She is an apparently healthy bird - nothing to worry about.

Thanks so much for the reassurance. It's my first go around with a flock and I just want to be sure I'm doing right by them and not missing any warning signs. I appreciate you!
