HELP Young Hen With Twisted Feet and Walking On Knees

Just a quick update
She is doing a bit better tonight. Left foot is partially straightened and she is able to raise up on her crooked feet. Gave her 2 drops on her beak and mixed 2 drops in a bit of corn meal mush. Will give her another 2 drops in the morning.

Poly-vi-sol vitamin supplement isn't this something you can buy over the counter at a drug store? Used this for my little one when she was smaller, can you just randomly give this to any chickens not just sick ones.

Poly Vi Sol is made by Enfamil and sold at most stores that carry baby formula.
From what I understand about it, because of it's human strength, you could probably OD your chickens on some of the vitamin contents.
You want to get the Poly Vi Sol WITHOUT Iron.
Mix it at a rate of about 2 to 3 drops per gallon of water for their drinking.
For a quick boost give 1 to 2 drops at their beak.

Personnally I would not give it to them unless they were sick. If you are feeding them a balanced diet then there should be no need. But just as human children get sick and you have to give them something for it, which is usually stored in the medicine cabinet, so it is with chickens.

Chickenchick and PamperedPullet,

How are your chickens now? Did the PolyViSol treatment work? Did you try any other treatments?

Please update us. Thank you!

Sorry I never gave an update on this little girl. She finally went in full paralisis and we had to cull her. She would do really well for a couple of days and then get worse. It was a back and forth thing. We ended up trying all sorts of things on her including movement therapy to try to loosen her joints. Never have found out exactly what caused it and have never had another one come down with it.
