Help! Yucky eyes and sneezing? Connecticut

Ok, I just checked on my pen of layers for next year, there is approximatley 75 birds a combo of Cuckoo marans and White orpingtons. several birds have very nasty eyes that appear to be either closed or closing. I see and hear what appears to be sneezing. Its been very wet here in ct and I am sure that has something to do with it. any advice at this time would be great.

We just moved from Connecticut to New Hampshire. Besides chickens I have 3 exotic birds. There is an avian vet in Kensington. The practice is Kensington Bird and Animal hospital. Wonderful people and very good. Their number is 860-828-7736. They open at 8am. Its funny but my chickens were exhibiting the same symptoms as your and I could not find a vet in NH that would look at a chicken! I called Dr. C (Theresa Cianciolo) and she told me what to do. Good luck with your little chicks. If you caught this in time they will be fine. I'll check back with you.

you can wash the eyes with saline eye wash..
there is an antibiotic eye ointment you can get at most farm/feed stores..terramycin eye ointment..apply a few times a day..

are they wheezing?
are the eyes swollen?
any swelling of the head or wattles?
are they eating and drinking as usual?
describe droppings..color and consistency.

have they been exposed to dusts?
(coop dust and dander/ammonia fumes, etc..lawn/garden chemicals)
what bedding are you using?
could be if it's been raining and they are cooped up..it's the bedding/coop dusts/ possible molds..
is the coop well ventilated?

Oxine can help with that (along with cleaning the coop if needed and fresh commercial pine shavings beddings..no straw or hay..no cedar shavings)

if they have respiratory illness..they'll need Tylan, erythromycin, or other..click thru antibiotics..(injectables and water solubles)..click pics of meds for info.(at first state link)
but cover the other bases first.

If there are no other respiratory symptoms , it might be the air quality of the coop (ventilation) in addition to the need for a good clean out (birds are vERY sensitive to ammonia) > they might be spending more time in the coop due to the weather .

My Rooster is exhibiting the same symptoms.He was fine this morning, but when I went to close the coop tonight, he was missing. I found him sitting in his favorite hole, wheezing and sneezing with a goopy eye. I copied the article on Oxine and will take it to the vet tomorrow. I hope he does not die before then - he is an old guy. It has rained alot here over the past month, so that very well may be the problem.

I totally cleaned out the coop and replaced all bedding. have Antibiotics in the water, food and sprinkled in the coop. They seem a little better, I will have to see when I get home from work. Thank you all for your input and suggestions. And of course its stil raining..........
