Help!

I got 2 chicks that were Kgarten hatching project. They have been inseparable since I got them, if one goes out of sight of the other, the other immediatly began crying.

One of the chickens has been a little more agressive than the other the entire time..not much but a lil. Well the calmer one all of a sudden is attacking the other. Any time she gets anywhere near her, she pecks her in the head, tries to climb on her.... lots of chicken shrieking going on. I opened the pen and the lil victim ran away to the other side of the yard..she followed and won't let her alone, keeps pecking at her.

I picked up the attacker and she was calm and didn't mind. As soon as I set her down she ran to go after the other one again! Hubby finished their coop today so they were going to spend their first night outside, but now I am afraid to lock them up together!

Wow, is one possibly a Roo?? The agressor? Maybe he is trying to mate?? I dont know....sounds like you might just have a bully!

Are you sure they're 'shes'? One might be a roo trying to 'satisfy' his needs or get the female under his 'spell'. Also, how big of a container are they in now? The coop might help things since they'll have more space.

How old are they? Could they both be roo's working on the pecking order? Are they the only birds you have?? Hmmm. Poor thing.

They are about 3-4mo old...I don't exactly when the Kgarten hatched the eggs.

They were staying in a rather small parrot cage, but only at night. During the day they had a large wire dog pen in the yard, but it's not like they actually stayed IN it, they mostly just flew out and spent their time roaming my backyard, which was fine I just wanted a place they could go if the dog bothered them but he never did.

I finished the coop today and put the wire dog pen up so they were confined to the side yard unless they flew over the pen. They seemed very happy with their new area and didn't fly out. Then all of a sudden the one got some wild hair and just went crazy towards the other. I took the pen down, they ran all over the yard shrieking and fighting and then all of a sudden stopped and are back to best buds again??? I just locked them up in the coop for the night, other than a squabble about who had the right to sit on top of the water dish which I ended by raising the water dish, they seem happy again.

Boy I hope I don't have roosters..I can't have roosters here and my lil girls would be so sad. I guess I'll post pics and see if you guys think they are roosters.

Oh boy......sounds bad. I had some very young chicks I bought at feed store......I have done this before with no so called bullys....at least not as young as these were,,,UNTIL the last batch........one was just out right mean.......smaller than the others, but would attack anyone who came near him/her..........I lost all mine but would have loved to see if this was a roo...........I would imagine being as aggressive as this one was . it was a roo.....I have had some mean roo's in my time............I hope it stops for you........or you may have to "place" this bully somewhere else..... good luck to you....

Actually, my hens do that too. When i let them out in the AM they run and run and every now and then, face off! The puff up and act all tough and then buds again. Your better off to post pics of them on here. The people on this board will help you figure out what you got.

A few months ago on this forum, I had almost the same problem except that I had a rooster that would come after my 12-year-old daughter and I all the time. Someone explained pecking order to me. Since then, we've established pecking order with my daughter as the alpha male. When the rooster goes after the chickens or a human, she chases him and gives him a good kick (may sound cruel, but it works). Once in a while he still tries it and needs to be chased down, but for the most part he's a good pet now and is careful not to get too aggressive with his girls. They've become so close that she is able to cradle him in her arms like a baby. He actually seems to like it as he falls asleep in her arms. Sounds like your aggressive chicken needs to learn pecking order with you as boss. Be firm as you would with a small child who attacks his brother/sister.
