Help!!!

We have a baby duck 4 days old and he is precious. But he was born with a foot curled under! We've done some reading and made a "shoe" for him. Can something bad happen more to his foot!?! Are we doing the right thing!?!? So stressed over this!!! Thank you pics won't post but middle knuckle is knotted looking.....got pics. Sorry. The one photo is showing his shoe

It's hard to tell..at least for me from the pictures but it looks like maybe the left side of her foot is folded under. I've seen other issues like this and I believe you're doing the right thing. Make sure when you have the bootie on that the foot is formed to what would be its natural position.

Maybe a broken toe? a shoe is a great idea.

To me it looks as though he would of had a fourth toe and it is fused to the middle toe....Its foot is deformed a bit...Can it walk around okay?

Yes he does very well! We keep a shoe on him part of the day and it doesn't fold under. But that toe worries me

If he gets around good as it is?...Nothing else you can do?...If the Duckling isn't worried?...You don't need too...

I have a chicken with a similar condition. It's best to keep the booty on all the time and change it as necessary like when it gets dirty, ruined or when he out grows it.

It's good that you caught it early. It's something that has to be corrected early.

His foot is not curling under anymore. I took shoe off cause he was all of a sudden really irritated with it. Gonna watch it

I'd highly recommend keeping that boot on and adjusting it its size as he grows. You are in a crucial growing time and once it sets into 1 direction it will only be harder to reverse.

As I research this condition in chickens, I keep finding it can be caused by a nutritional deficiency. I'm not sure what vitamins, minerals, etc ducks need, but I encourage you to look at your duckling's diet. That foot will be suspectible to further injury and infection as he grows.
