One of my girls have leg mites and I’ve never had to deal with them before and would love to know the best way to treat them before it spreads.

This is what I do: Soak legs and feet in warm water with Epsom salt and scrub them with a soft brush, when dry I mix 2 tablespoons of yellow sulfur powder with ½ cup petroleum jelly- applied daily for a minimum of two weeks. Other people use just Vaseline to coat the legs and feet. Some use different oils.

I heard scuttlebutt about using seven dust. What would be the downside to using this.

I have used Sevin Dust for mites/lice on the body, the problem with it for leg mites is that the mites burrow down under the leg scales and are not easy to get to. The powder could just rub off.

Scaly leg mites can be smothered with something like this too:

Vaseline in its pure form is all that's needed..It suffocates them...

Devon dust isn’t good for the lungs of you or birds,I’d use permithian spray it does better then just about all the dusts

I have a friend that uses it in Canada (it's approved for poultry up there...not here)...but not for leg mites.
