My baby chick hatched this morning and was born with a birth defect. I tried to gently wash the chick in luke warm water - but it seemed to upset it so I wrapped him/her in a soft warm wash cloth to hopefully heal. Has anyone seen this before? What should I do!

Is this mass on little chicken's vent or below? Keep an eye to make sure the other chicks don't peck her there to make matters worse.

I would wait to see what someone else says with more knowledge before wiping her down again if it is on her navel.

I am so sorry this happened to you! Best wishes for little one.

Thank you! I will keep a close watch and see if there is any update. Maybe someone else will have a better idea. I appreciate your help!

If it's little chicken's navel, it could possibly shrivel up and fall off. That is being optimistic. I have read of infections of the navel too. Again, though, I have never experienced this personally. I hope someone responds to help soon. Poor baby.

If it's coming from her vent it could be more fatal.

Is it coming from the vent and look like it could be it's intestines? Could be hernia or it could be prolasped.

If no one responds soon, I would contact a vet to see if they could point you in the right direction.

Is she eating and drinking okay?
