HELP !!!

I had a chicken taken by a fox last year and there was a huge pile of feathers in the yard! It was in April and I saw it going away and my dogs found the huge pile of feathers. It was at first light, the girls were going crazy and another one came walking right by the back of my house no 15 minutes later. I think foxes hunt all times of the day when they have pups, but it is probably too early for that in most places right now. Sorry for your loss.

Update on my attacks!!

My wife saw a strange dog yesterday attack one of my dominque hens. She chased the dog off before it killed the hen. I emptied a full round in their direction this morning as they ran through wooded lot heard one yelp and saw 2 of the bandits running away so 1 down 2 to go.

I need advice on the injured hen I brought into my house. She is still walking around and has been drinking water but I can't see where she has eaten anything yet. She is a blue foot chicken and she did lay an egg the next day after being attacked but the skin and most of the flesh around her neck is gone. What can I do to help her. I have tried the pedialyte but she didn't drink any of that. I placed antibiotics in her water currently. I am keeping her inside until all danger is past. Should I use some peroxide on her wounds since they are healed over or use some type of topical anti biotic cream if she'll permit it to happen. I have never had a hen this badly injured and she is living but I don't want to put her down since she is the only girl I have that currently lays blue-green eggs. I would appreciate any advice on helping her. please !

If the wounds have started healing do not use Peroxide on them, it will damage new flesh coming in. The scabs will be the nastiest things that you have ever seen but don't be tempted to remove them by soaking they are there for a purpose and will flake off on their own.

If she was in the jaws of the dog there could be internal damage to her as well from the jaw pressure of the dog. Only time will tell on this.

A dog, is about the only thing that will kill or Mame several chickens at one time, most other predators will only kill as a food source.

Fox, coon, weasel and most others will kill all they can and then carry them off one at a time. It's just like us going grocery shopping. They found an easy food source and are going to stock up.
