Are the saddle feathers the ones that kind of start on their back and if they’re long they droop down almost like a saddle blanket would (trying to use context clues)Here are the pics I got tonight. Sorry they’re not great, these guys (or gals) are a lot friendlier because they spent a few weeks in our basement because they were extra small when I got them. I’ve included a pic of the other “baby” (black kind of red head) of the the group... does anyone know what she is? She’s been one of my favorites out of the group.

If “baby” is in the last picture and is the Black with the coppery red around her neck/head then I would say Black Sexlink. She looks exactly like my Black Sexlink pullet.

What a rotten start to chicken keeping. That seems a bit dishonest to sell you a bunch of “sexed” pullets then not stand behind the birds when they are so obviously wrong.

At least when I bought my chicks at the feed store they were upfront about the fact that their “sexed” chicks were only 90% and that there was a chance we would end up with a Rooster.

It sounds like at least you are prepared to deal with the over abundance of boys.

I personally love sex linked birds for that reason.....you know you are getting girls! I wish more local people bred and sold Sexlink varieties here.

Thank you all! I am going to try again for better pictures of the Barred Rocks I believe to be cockerels. Unfortunately we met at a store for purchase, so I can’t take back to where I got them, seller has completely blocked all communication and I feel like if I were to leave a review on their farm FB page it would just be deleted.... so I’m left with the live and learn mentality. The seller knew what he was doing and frankly took advantage of my lack of knowledge ‍ I’m finally getting eggs from the hens and seems like I will have a lot of farm raised chicken for dinner all winter!

i don’t recommend buying chicks from local farms they are usually wrong when they say they will be “pullets”. Next time try online from a trusted website or from a tractor supply.

Your "barred Rocks" are actually black sex links. They can be sexed at hatch - the pullet chicks are solid black and the cockerel chicks are black with a white dot on the head. Pullets mature black with some red in the hackles (the other "baby") and the cockerels are barred.

How old were they when you bought them? I would say he probably knew.

Yeah, he did. He's a rat. Karma will get him, just don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen. Your flock is beautiful and healthy though, so that's a plus!

They were sold as 10-12 weeks old.

Okay. Your "BRs" are actually the males of Black Sex Links. They are all cockerels. The last picture, the black one, that is the female of a Black Sex Link.
