I do because hubby hounds me about flip flops after the rat bite. I absolutely will stomp rats instinctively. If you don't get them far enough they can twist around and bite your foot. He doesn't want another trip to the ER to cut out a rat tooth because I was only able to pull one of them.

No rats here, but if there were I think I'd be wearing steel toe boots.

I have killed a few in the old coop with my walking stick.
Have not had any in the main coop but after Richard built it I went through plugging wholes as I found them.

They want the shelter more than anything here. Raising the silkie coops up on cinder blocks helped a ton.

I have 2 layer of cinderblocks on the newer coop with concrete in the lower end.

The ER medics still make me laugh from that visit. They didn't believe me until I showed the tooth I managed to get out, then the xray. The triage medic freaked about rabies risk.

I always have something weird when I end up at Madigan. Skinned my eyeball once and tried to remove my pinky last time.
