One of chickens that was laying might be having a problem. She was sitting in nesting box on eggs and I would have to make her move coz I thought she was probably brooding. But she has not laid for at least 3 days and today she was sitting in there and I picked her up and only protest was ruffled feathers which is odd as she has not been one to allow being picked up. I’m thinking she might be sick? ...or egg stuck? Any advice?

They sometimes will stay in a nest box if they become sick, but I would rule out being broody first. Will she pull an egg under her if you set one in the nest? Are her chest feathers missing? Will she run back to the nest box if you take her out of the coop?

How old is she? If she is not broody, I would feel of her crop to see if it is empty, full, hard, or puffy. Has she lost any weight through her breast area, and is her keel (breastbone) more prominent than usual? Look her over for lice and mites under her vent and elsewhere. Will she drink water or eat some feed mixed with water?
