Help!!

I had 5 hens and two roos.. I truly believe my youngest roo killed her because he runs at us every time we try to go in the coop to feed or collect.. I have separated him from the flock. Not sure yet what I'll do with him..
When you have too few hens and too many roosters it can only be a disaster. The hens are overmated TO DEATH and the roosters fight.
@Big Red Roosters is telling you the word. please listen.

So update.. My hubs and I decided to take out Joe cockerel (youngest roo). I can't bring myself to eat him though because he was a pet to me.. Now sitting here, drinking my coffee and watching them they are so much more at peace.. I hated to take his life and not at least utilize the meat but I just couldnt cook him up knowing I raised him from a tiny baby.. Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions.. I love this page.. Also I'll be spending time out with the silkies making sure I don't have anymore roos than I need for them.. Thanks guys!!

It should be more like 1:10
C'mon, you know better than that! ;)

The 'rooster' to hen ratio of 1:10 that is often cited is primarily for fertility efficiency in commercial breeding facilities.
It doesn't mean that if a cockbird has 10 hens that he won't abuse or over mate them.

Many breeders keep pairs, trios, quads, etc

It all depends on the temperaments of the cock and hens and sometimes housing provided.

Backyard flocks can achieve good fertility with a larger ratio.

I get ya’ @aart , but in this flock there was chaos.

Well...clearly you’ve got a problem. Separate your Roo’s from your hens. Keep only one. Keep them or Him separate until he matures. A over matted hen shows signs of ware & tear in her feathers....you said your hen didn’t have the obvious signs. Seems the aggression between the two adolescent Roo’s was taken out on your hen. This will not “work out” on its own. Please take care of your girls and remove the Rooster’s (cockerels)
