So I'm new to the whole BYC and I am on this page now because I had a question about 1 of my Golden Comets. So, I did what most of the population does and googled my question. This brought me to a post in your forum in regards to why someone's hen was crowing.

I bought 12 egg laying hens, 4 silver wyandots, 4 austrolops and 4 golden comets. 1 of my goldens loves to crow...help?

Welcome!
How old are your birds? You either have a missexed bird or a crowing hen (they happen). Photos would be helpful

Ok, sexing a chicken is easy, mostly, if the top of its head (the little thing chickens get idk what its called sorry not great with terms) is red then you have a cockerel, if its pinkish white you have a pullet, just weird behavior i guess..

A hen can crow like a rooster. ... It doesn't happen in a regular flock with a rooster present, but in small backyard flocks with just female chickens, although it is rare, it is not unheard of.

That would be the comb, and the differences you state only apply in birds under 16+ weeks of age (which is part of why age was asked above)as a female at or beyond point of lay will have a full, red comb....only in immature, or some ill, females is the comb pale

I understand that but it is still a way of sexing them, even if it takes a while..

I'm sorry everyone. My pics must not have posted. They are about 12-14 weeks old
