Free range with brood will put some more shell grit out.. what am I looking for if I can catch it?

Hi
I’m in Victoria chicks get starter crumble and can eat adult layer seeds and pellets (as in same run)
Also on grass and has hay as bedding
As in Victoria, BC?

Grit and oyster shell are two completely different things It is unfortunate that some people use the term shell grit which confuses newbies. Grit is insoluble coarse stones chickens consume to aid in digestion by grinding feedstuffs in the gizzard.
Oyster shell is a calcium source chicks don't need and is soluble. It serves no purpose as grit since it gets mushy when wet.

Can you post a picture up close of the stuff? Shell is usually bright white and grit is typically gray in color. Grit feels like rocks and won't dissolve in water, but shell will clump up and dissolve in water.

Sorry not great photo
