I had another thread going about my momma hen leaving this little egg and me sticking in the incubator and seemed to stop getting responses I am at a loss. It was by calculations 21 days today so yesterday when I brought it in after mom abandoned it I put it in lockdown temp and humidity but before doing that it looked as if it wasn’t quite fully developed. My question is should I continue lockdown or should I lower the humidity and let it roll a couple days in the auto turner or are the chances of it surviving because of its delayed development slim???

Can you post a picture of the egg while you candle it? I’ve made the mistake of thinking an egg wasn’t ready to go into lockdown on day 18 but it really was.

What color is the egg? Brown? It’s hard to tell but i would say that egg is close to lockdown. It doesn’t hurt them to put it in a day early. This is a chart I always use when trying to figure out if my eggs are on schedule. Yours looks like day 17 or 18.

Yes it’s a light brown. My concern is it’s so far behind because it should be say 23 today and it is just now looking like it should be in lockdown when I have had it in lockdown for a couple days now.

Is there veining still when you candle it? It was hard to tell from the picture, probably because of the egg color. But it looked like if the chick were to be alive still you would be able to see veining. You said it was moving? If it’s on day 23 and still alive then maybe your incubator temps were too low. I’ve had eggs look like that but not on day 23. Usually if they look like that for me after day 21 they’re dead.

There is still veining. It was under a broody mom before I brought it to the incubator and I think she wasn’t laying on it like she should have been because it was definitely small. I’m gonna give it today and recheck it tonight because it is way past hatchday.

Outcome?
