I have a 3 day old chick I had to assist out of its shell.
She was doing fine but I’m quite concerned she will sleep a hell of a lot throughout most of the day alway seems drowsy and she’s quite small i don’t know if I’m over worrying as the other chicks I have are a week old and are all doing fine? She had a pasty bum which I’ve cleaned and dryed but I’m still worried. I’ve put a picture down below any advice will be appreciated as I’m new to raising chicks
Thanks Meghan x

Can you describe your brooder setup or post a picture? How many other chicks is it with? Electrolytes in the water supply could be a good start if you haven’t tried that yet.

Here is a picture of my brooder below. She is with 4 other chicks which are a week old. And no I haven’t tried that yet thought I would ask on here for advice first thankyou.

Hmmm. What kind of bulb is that? The setup looks pretty tight and a little dangerous because of the access have to the hot bulb. The bulb needs to be guarded. What’s the temp showing? Young chicks want warmth but if they’re too hot they will just sleep.

Have you raised chicks in this setup before?

It’s a 60w traditional fire glow bulb but it’s only temporary waiting on a delivery for a chick brooder where they all sit under it? Temp showing 33 degrees. And no this is my first time using this set up.

Temp is ok, but I would try to give them more space soon so they have room to thrive/escape direct heat or not get trampled while tryin to snooze.
I have found a much bigger brooding box for them they look so lost in it lol! Thanks so much. she seems a lot more happier and she’s perked up a lot! I’ll keep a close eye on her over the next few days. I appreciate the advice! Thanks once again!
