Help me!! My girl had a soft shell egg stuck in her. I pulled it out but I don’t know if it broke in her. There was yolk in the coop and down her butt. I took her and cleaned it with warm water and I have isolated her.

Ugh! I always freak out when this happens to my girls :( . I’ve pulled out soft shells before, and sometimes when I’ve actually seen it happen, most of the inside part of the egg was pushed out. So far, mine haven’t turned sick (though if you are really concerned, I would suggest getting some antibiotics to keep on hand in case she starts to look sickly - from yolk inside causing a bacterial infection. Some one told me about Fishmox (amoxicillin for fish tanks) and I’d mix it with water and give my sick hen 250 mL twice daily - but don’t take this step unless you suspect infect). Not sure if you can do any more than you’ve done at the moment, but someone else might have more experience than me. Good luck!

How did this go? I suspect the same thing happening to my hen & was about to post my own thread regarding this. She was having trouble yesterday evening with an partially broken egg stuck to her bottom and I was able to pull what was left if it off of her but was afraid the rest might be inside of her. Today she acted off all day. She is the head hen & usually leading the way but today she stayed perched in their outdoor run all day shivering a bit (it’s cold today) & only got down to eat & drink. This evening when I went to secure the coop she didn’t even want to get off her outdoor roosting bar to go in to her roosting bar. I carried her. 🙁. I have no idea what to do!
