I made the 5 gal bucket feeder with 3 elbows sealed it up, and my girls just threw the food everywhere... what did I do wrong ?? back to the old feeder and filling everyday ???
I've seen quite few members who didn't have luck with the elbow feeders being no-waste. However, aart's design, also made with a bucket, seems to do the trick:
Note that the key elements are: The funnel (which only distributes a small amount a feed at a time), the distance that the hens have to reach to get to the feed, and most importantly - the lip around the hole that keep birds from billing out the food.
I used those principles to make a hopper type feeder that works well, too.
