My chicken buttercup suddenly started to stand there and all puffed up. There is yellow liquid coming out of her vent. She laid an egg yesterday but not today. I’m not sure what to do I don’t have a vet I’m in Canada too. She also doesn’t eat or drink. .. and it’s really cold here. Please reply ASAP!

So sorry to hear, hopefully you'll get some answers from the experienced members...I would take her inside and make sure she is warm & comfortable until you can solve her issues..sending you prayers..

How old is she? Has she been a consistent layer? Is her crop emptying overnight? Yellow in her droppings might indicate a reproductive disorder or ascites. Pictures of droppings could help. I would make her some scrambled egg and try to get her drinking fluids and add a little water to some chicken feed to make a mash.

She’s a year and a bjt older she’s a consistent layer almost every day and her crop empties at night but today I noticed it’s squishy I’ll send pictures and I gave her water and chicken feed mixed and I also have this nutrient booster for chickens thing.

Thank you I am not allowed to take her inside.

Is her crop full and squishy in early morning? How does her breath smell when you gently press on her crop? Crop disorders can accompany reproductive infections, cancer, or ascites due to the pressure inside the abdomen. Have you seen any egg matter coming from the vent, or are the normally white urates turning yellow?

Here is an update. She seems fine now. I just saw a soft shelled egg inside the coop. I give her oyster shells and egg shells for calcium I hope tomorrow she won’t lay a soft shell egg
