I got my duckling about 4 hours ago, she was perfectly fine on the way home. She then started acting weak and wouldn’t drink water. Her nose kept throwing water out she’s been laying down and started bobbing her head non stop she won’t eat or drink water :((

How old is she? It’s perfectly normal for newly hatched ducklings to not eat or drink for a day or two. They nod their heads as they’re falling asleep, and they will sleep a lottt.

Water coming out of their nose generally indicates they either drank too much or they are too hot.

Also, I highly recommend getting another duckling if you don’t already have other ducks. Ducks are flock animals and require companionship 24/7 for their entire lives, otherwise they will become very depressed.

I can’t tell how old it is, it looks like it’s about maybe a week or two?? I do have other ducks one of them is too old to be with it, and i just put her together with the other duckling that is about the same age as her.

I just put her under the heating plate, should I take her out instead?

She hasn’t drank water ever since i brought her home, i tried forcefully giving her some thinking maybe she was dehydrated?

IM SO CONFUSED AND SCARED i don’t want her to die :(

No, she looks to be a few days old max, I was more wondering if you knew the exact age. Have you seen her walk yet?

Do you have a thermometer? Temperature for her should be ~90 - 95°F.

Definitely do not forcefully give her water, she could aspirate. I understand being confused and scared, but panicking could make things worse. Nothing you’ve said sounds bad to me.

Yes she was walking perfectly fine, she was chirping as well she just randomly started staying in one spot on the floor and not wanting to walk.

I just put her under the heat plate I do not have a thermometer she’s currently at my boyfriends house I have the thermometer I use for my ducks at my house😣

I expect she’ll be able to move away if she’s hot, then. Lying on the floor and sleeping likely just means she’s very comfortable where she is :idunno She will cry to let you know something is wrong.

Let us know in a little while if she still isn’t eating or drinking. You may have to teach her to eat, also, by wetting the food and / or breaking it up into smaller crumbs. Let some food float in the water, or offer the food on your finger.

update she sadly passed away 😭😭😭
Wow, that’s unfortunate.. I’m very sorry. Usually, behavior like that is normal, but I guess it wasn’t for her.
I had a few ducklings like that - very sleepy before passing away. I don’t think there was anything you could do..
