Hey I have a baby peacock which I found recently it was been living well intill yesterday it was playing outside by the rocks when one fell onto it's foot it seems that one toe looks maybe broken it is split and looks very sore I live in New zealand and the vets will not help I've been told to just go out to a forest spot and stop it off so I've come here for help what can I do will it heal how should I help ?.

A picture would help tremendously, have you placed it inside? Maybe in a dog crate with food/water so it doesn't injure any further. I would suggest wrapping it with a disposable bandage if it is split/bleeding.

I will have to take a photo when the plaster that I've wrapped it with comes off I do have a little bird cage with the essentials but it just keeps picking at its leg

It does look swollen. If the skin is open, I would be careful to avoid infection. I would make sure it's very clean and then re-wrap it. I know in some countries you can buy an antibiotic cream. I had a bird with a cut before and I wasn't able to buy antibiotic cream here without a prescription but maybe you can there. I used an antiseptic cream instead and it healed nicely.

If it's broken, I think you can splint it. I have no experience with that but here is a link to a very comprehensive manual for splints in birds.

I would also give it something for pain relief and to take the swelling down. You could ask a vet to prescribe some metacam but if that's not possible, aspirin is safe in birds and I've given it to chickens and peafowl with success. I usually give a low dose human tablet which is 80mg but for a small peachick you would obviously need to use less. What does he weigh? Be careful that it's aspirin. No other human pain relief is safe for birds.

Kia ora from Ireland. I lived in NZ for years and miss it so much.
