My banties don't seem to want to leave the coop. the are 6 weeks i know their not really babies but in the managing your flock section nobody will help. I have left the door open for hours at a time and they still wont come out and if they do its cause i chase them out. are they still to young to understand?

I've never had any banties before (other than the 5 in my brooder

) but my leghorns did that for a week or so. I put down a few treats on the ground outside, and over the next few days just moved the treats further and further from the coop. After a few days of doing this, my girls decided they liked the big outdoors and began their free-ranging lives.

You could try it, and see if it helps

Im sure its just a matter of time for them to get used to the outdoors. I have reverse problem with the red star pullets I bought. They are still getting used to going up into the coop in the evenings. Thhey are coming around slowly

I wouldn't worry much, they will be fine and try putting their food and water out side

No, they're not too young. They're just scared of anything new. Give them some time.

Mine have a large yard without any real cover or shade yet. They all run out early in the AM and when the sun gets low in the PM, and explore the whole yard, but tend to stay in during the heat of the day. If they go out for a while and any little bird flies over, they all run back in. Guess they like the shade and safety.

Just give them time. I just put out young birds also..and they were staying in the coop. now they are starting to come out..one was even in my yard yesterday!

They are just being chickens! They are probably just scared and need time to get used to the idea of going on field trips!
