My quail are pecking each other and scalping each other they will be 6 weeks old monday should I get rid of the extras roos now

do I need to seperate them in pairs like 1 roo to 5 hens
or can I leave them all in the pen

DEPENDS....WHAT TYPE OF QUAIL? BOB WHITES DO BETTER IN BREEDER GROUPS. COTURNIX- YOU CAN THIN THE ROOS DOWN AND TRY THE COMMUNITY PEN AND IF IT DOESNT WORK THEN MOVE TO SMALLER BREEDER GROUPS.

right now we have 70 something jumbo coturnix in a 10 foot by 32" pen they will be 6 weeks old monday I have no ideal how many roos or how many hens are in there how many can I keep in that pen without them killing each other?

okay it is too dark out to seperate tonight would it be okay to seperate tomorrow I went and counted the males and all I saw was about 15 total the rest are hens and think what dh is seeing on their back is their backs are bald I did not see any blood anywhere. but I did see bald backs there are only about 3 that are crowing. could it be the hens pecking each other? I would really like to wait to butcher till they get their breast filled out some more but there are some out there that look like monsters. we have never eaten quail or quail eggs and that is what we bought the eggs and hatched them for we never thought that many eggs would hatch. we are also trying to get rid of alot of our chickens and if I can't sell then he is going to butcher them. oh well I wont need any chicken for about 3 years

sounds like you are way over crowded. i think it is 1 square foot per bird. 10'X2.8=28 sq feet. sounds like you have 40 birds to many. i would jump on craigslist and see if you can find some more cages.
