HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dad wants to butcher my chickens that I raised and am atached to! What should I do to get out of it? I need help! I know to some of you think that this sounds stupid but it matters! I need help!

It isn't stupid! I don't butcher mine. It just depends what you are raising them for. Mine are pets that provide me with eggs. Is this something new or was the plan originally to raise them for meat? Maybe you can get him to spare your favorites?

Did you just now learn that it was his intent? Or are they slowing down laying so he wants to process them? Not sure how we can really help, though. I can imagine how stressful that is for you!

his plan was to sell them, and keep 12. but then he got the Idea of butchering them! and its just awful. we got the chickens from a hatchery May of this year. Can you think of any way to talk him out of it?

Well, to help you with that we need to know why he wants to butcher them. Do you know? Ask him.

You might remind him that layers are not very big when processed. He may change his mind.

Your signature line kind of says it all doesn't it? I am sure your dad is the one providing that country life for you, and this is part of it. Tell him your feelings, and then accept his decision with respect and appreciation.

Unless you have meat birds your dad probably won't be happy with the amount of meat on the birds and they are really only good for soup or dumplings.

Farm animals were raised for one pupose...food. If they are raised for a hobby, then you would still want to keep the very best of the flock to breed an even better flock. If you are raising them for pets then maybe you could select out your favorites and ask that they not be processed.

My chickens are for food, mostly in the form of eggs, but I have had some birds processed for meat too. They get the best housing, food and care that I can provide and I do that because I love them and I honor them for their sacrifice.
