My 3 week old chick has somehow managed to hurt its self. It is bleeding on its elbow. Any ideas on how to fix it? Its with 13 other chicks. Thanks!!
ETA: that clear stuff that is around the base of its feathers is all gone to...

Hi, I would separate the chick, clean the area, put some antibiotic ointment on the elbow area, and watch it. Also check the coop to see if it got caught on something that could hurt the others

Not sure what you mean about "the clear stuff". But I would mix a little blue food coloring with neosporin and apply that to the damaged area and then put some vaseline on the area. The purpose of the blue color is so that other chicks won't peck at it since they typically will if they see blood. Also they don't like vaseline on their becks, so this also prevent pecking and will give the area an opportunity to heal.

Check your brooder to see what she could have hurt herself on and remove it to make the area safer in the future.

If you provide a more detailed/specific heading to your posts you will find more people will respond.

Best wishes, I hope your chick heals well.

Make sure any neosporin or any anti- biotic you use is NOT the pain killer/numbing kind!!!!!! Read the ingredients!!! If it has anything ending with caine in it, IT IS POISON to chickens!!!!!! Other than that I would treat as you would yourself. Clean, disinfect, and protect! Seperation may be nessecery until healed. Otherwise the others may peck at it.

Good Luck and God Bless!

I believe the clear stuff refferd to is the penn feather covering.... reffering to the age of the chick? Possibly Would be my guess!
