I am a mom of a little 8 year old girl that is in 4H and wants to show chickens! So being the mom that I am I let her get six of them from our local farm store! Bad thing is that the people that work there know no more than I do about chickens! So here are so pics of her chicks and I am wanting to know what we have both breed and sex! Thanks for any help!

Well it looks like you're in for a fun time!

It's too early to tell about gender (repost in a few weeks). The brown chipmunk ones are Easter Eggers - notice that one has little muffs on the cheeks - very cute- the orange ones are Rhode Island Reds, and the black w/ yellow face Australorp, I believe. Not sure about the little yellow one - maybe Buff Orpington?

Good luck to you!!

Sorry to contradict, but the chick ascorbic says is an Australorp can't be, as it has pretty little white wingtips.

Unfortunatly, I have no clue what it could be otherwise.

My RIR's didn't look like that as chicks - they each had 2 dark stripes down their backs and feathered out evenly. I agree with the chipmunk faces being EE's I have 4 of those myself.

I agree with the black one being an australorp,

I used to raise black standard cochins and they can sometimes have some white feathers in the wing bows that usually moult out before adulthood. The only other breeds that chick really looks like are the black jersey giants or maybe a silver laced wyandotte, unfortunately those breeds have yellow legs, unlike the australorps. The two chipmunk colored ones are most likely Aracaunas, the lighter ones look like maybe RIRs or possibly red stars since one looks like it has white wing feathers?? Or is that just my poor eyesight....

I do believe the red ones are Red Stars/Red Sex Links. These are mixed breeds which all have a Rhode Island Red father with different mothers to create the sex links. I have to agree on the chipmunk ones being Easter Eggers. I'm not sure about your black and white chick. I'm just a newbie and learning the easy ones first
