If she wants to REALLY show birds your 4-H leader should point you in the way of a breeder. Most feed store chicks are "utility" quality.
 
I am now thinking about being my own leader because our leader knows about as much as I do! That ans she is down right hateful!
 
the last 1 looks a bit like my old english game bird. the color of the feathers are the same and the racing stripe down the head, at that age. but my chicks getting new black feathers and turned out to be a roo. it goes to show if you have a question about sexing birds .... if you have a favorite or 2 your looking at a rooster.
