I am new to the forum.
I have always wanted chickens and have been bugging my husband for a long time now to agree with me that chickens would be a great addition to our family... Yesterday a hen showed up in our yard and didn't leave. We live in a heavily wooded area right new to conservation land so there are a lot of wild animals everywhere, including big healthy coyotes, so as it grew late in the day, I scooped her up, put her in a cat carrier and drove everywhere in my neighborhood looking for her home. By dark I put her in my garage, feed her water and chicken food (donated by a friend with pet chickens who is away on vacation and doesn't want to add a foreign chicken to her group). The hen roosted all night high up on a scrap wood pile and seemed quite content... I was told to let her out this morning and that she would eventually find her way home. So I did and she has not left my yard. Obviously I can't leave her out if she doesn't leave tonight... but any ideas on what to do??? Is it a bit premature to begin building a chicken coop? lol How do I go about finding her owners????
