HELP!!!

They are Pekins and almost 4 weeks old. No, I did not stop the vitamins because while we were seeing improvement she still wasn't "quite right". I got the niacin at 11 this am when the health food store finally opened. Walmart, Walgreens and Publix of course didn't carry just plain niacin. I dissolved half of a 250mg capsule in a gallon of water and just gave it to the ducks. Hopefully this works and she gets better soon. Thank you all so much for your help. I am really worried about her. My daughter loves her and they are a great match, she loves to sit in her lap the time we take them out to bond in the evenings. (While mommy cleans up their area that is - lol) Do I continue to add the other vitamins to their water as well?

Yes keep up vitamins since she probably needs all the support it can get right now. you may have to help it drink by holding it's head if your not already, doing this alot to make sure it;s getting a good bit of water. you can also take a dropper and fill and put it right along the bill and get it to drink that way. Never try to put any kind of liquid down their throats because it can go into the lungs. just dribble along the opening of the bill, they drink some and some will be wasted but it is still a good way to get liquids in them, and if it's having a hard time eating you can make a soup gruel and feed this way too. Please update when you get time.

Yes, please keep us posted! We would love to hear how things are going once you start the niacin. I am really hoping she will make a full recovery!!
It's good for the girls to spend lots of time with their ducklings. Mine would follow me around and jump into my lap when I called her name and patted my leg. They're so cute when they're little and do their little hops up into your lap. Now that's she's older, she doesn't jump into my lap anymore, but she tells me all about it and nibbles all over me. Pekins are sooo much fun.

UPDATE: I just checked on the ducklings and "Thomas" (yes still a girl) is doing better in that she is standing up. Her neck is still NOT straight and she is not steady but her head is off the ground and "upright". Hopefully she continues to improve and doesn't regress again. Thank you all again for your help, advice and support. I will continue to post progress reports.

Could this be the problem I am having with my duckling Spinner? (Lack of niacin?) He eats, drinks, and nestle;s with the other ducklings he just can't stand up. He seems healthy and he's very active but i don't know if he will ever walk on his own. And when i hold him he cannot hold his head up alone.

Lack of niacin (which I think is different for each duck - some just seem to need more) causes nervous system problems. It is worth a try to boost his niacin levels. Storey's Guide recommends that if there are signs of deficiency (like Spinner has), get 100 to 150 mg per gallon of water in the water for the next several weeks.

Some sprinkle brewer's yeast on the food. That is a less precise way to go, but many have had success with it. Brewer's yeast, not bread yeast.

I second the niacin!! I've heard about some people's ducks not being able to walk at all and then suddenly they are fine as if nothing was ever wrong.
