want to get a few tophats and asked around locals say its too cold here (northern maine) and they wont survive, does anyone have this breed where its cold?

They will be fine! Having a bunch is better as they can huddle. I know people who put up heat lamps for their Silkies in the winter, but in my experience they don't need it except when the temp drops below 0˚F (this is actual temp not windchill). They do okay if they're out of the wind and out of the wet. Silkies are definitely more susceptible to wet and chilling than other chickens, but I've not heard of Polish being quite as fragile. You could always try them out and make some coop adjustments along the way.

we have never lost any chickens until today,**** foxes, but they have been fine even when its -25 without the wind but they have an insulated coop with the ducks -geese keep each other warm.
