Help

Apparently they need to be shown how to eat. (I have no personal experience in this, but saw your question and so did a search on here.) They are not like other birds who just go at the food on their own.

Do you have a baby chick to put with it?

Th chick will eat, and the baby duck will hopefully mimic.

If you don't have a chick to put with it, even just for about a week...then you have to teach it!

I just got two turkeys for the first time ( not that I think that turkeys are the same as a wood duck.. ). And they don't know how to eat by themselves either! I couldn't believe it!

I had to make a little feed dish out of shiny tin foil, and add sparkly marbles and glass pebbles. Pretty much, you need something that is too large for them to swallow, but is eye catching.

Then I had to keep tapping at the food, for forever! Also, dropping the crumbles was good too. The moving food helped to get their attention.

Anyway, crazy!

I had to encourage them to eat every 20 to 40 minutes EVERY SINGLE DAY, ALL DAY LONG, for about a week. Now, I still go and encourage them to eat about three times a day.

Anyway....if your duck baby hasn't eaten in a while, I would try to dribble sugar water or something else reviving, just once, and then work on talking him into eating.

Good luck!
