Help!

My rooster had gotten frost bitten, and that area of his comb and wattles had started turning black. With all the snow and ice my chickens will not leave their coop today. I went to check on them and they had pecked all the black off of the roosters wattles, & he was bleeding everywhere! I got the bleeding stopped and turned on some red heat lamps to try to deter them from continuing to peck. Anything else I need to do??

Ack! Frostbite on the comb is no big deal UNLESS the other birds eat at it!

I would cover the wound with blu-kote.

I don't think that the heat will help at all. It might actually make it worse if the warmer temps get the spots to thaw and so bleed more.

the reason for the heat lamps is they are red bulbs. Keeps the chickens from seeing blood as easy. Where can I get blu-kote?

any animal feed / tractor supply type of store would carry some.

You don't need blu-Kote specifically, but you want a thick goopy wound paste so no chickens want to peck at it.
