Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Usually when you get a new bird, you need to introduce them slowly over a several week period by keeping the new birds in a cage or fenced off area but within the flock for a few weeks. This allows for an easier transition for the new bird. But since she has been in your flock for a month, all you can do is put out more feed and watering stations so she does not have to compete. The others can run her off to the point she goes without food or water.

Give her a good physical too. If she is sick in anyway, they will attack her. Look for mites, lice, any respiratory ailments, anything that might make her sick.

Don't confine her in with the others for a while either. So if you do have run and they are all in there, make sure she has places he can get away from the others.

It is always best to introduce at least 2 birds to a flock. 1 bird is vulnerable to aggression. Flocks have a pecking order and each bird has it's place in it.

If you have a bird that is exceptionally aggressive to this new bird, you might try some pinless peepers on the mean bird to give this bird a chance to get worked into the flock

Good luck and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC!! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

X2, don't throw her in with the other birds right away, take it very slow since she is only one. After about two or three weeks of seeing but not touching you can let them mix. Interfere if there is bloodshed. Check her over for mites, lice, signs of disease, etc. It's also recommended to keep her seperated for a couple weeks in case she does have a disease. (you don't want the other birds to catch it!)

If you are having issues or other problems don't hessitate to ask us; we'd love to help!

Good luck!:)

Since you've already put her in with the other chickens, it's a little late for quarantine. The other chickens peck at her because that's how they establish the pecking order. Every time you add to or subtract from the flock, it messes up their pecking order and they have to start all over again. I'd keep an eye on things, but since she's already been in there, you might as well leave her unless it gets really bad (as in, blood has been drawn). You can try the "look but don't touch" method for a few weeks if you like, but there will still most likely be pecking when they are mixed together again. Make sure that your new hen has a place to escape, make sure your chickens have plenty of room so she can get away, try having two feeders and waterers out.
