I'm new to this site and I'm not sure I'm in the right area for this question. I have 10 chickens and they are roughly 3 months old. Four were sexed but the other 6 were straight run. I have been trying to read up on how to tell if you have a rooster. Four of the six have started challenging each other and kind of chest bumping each other. From what I have read this is a tale tell sign that they are roosters. Is this true ?

Look for reddish larger comb and waddles

also my tell tail is looking at the feathers on the back end (will not work with Silkies for sure) but if the feathers are neat like on the wings as they round the back side it is a roo. If the feathers are poofy like a fancy panty or fluffy bum with shorter feathers Hen. I dont think that is a standard way of telling that is just my observation with my own chickens.

Thank u so much. I'll take some pictures and post them tomorrow. The one to me has noticeable longer feathers on the back of the tail area and they even are starting to curl over.

on the straight feather breeds. that has been my experience.



You might need to blow this up, but there is only 1 roo in this pic all others are Ladies.

lol thanks that's what I'm running into. I read and read and then try to figure it out but I'm lost. These three are always bumping chest, none of the other ones to. They actually got in a stare off last night for a few minutes which makes me lean toward Roos
