I have a chicken that has lost some weight, she seems dizzy, her eyes are kinda hazy, she seems like she treys to sleep during the day and by one of her eyes (just above eye partway under eye lid) she has a small yellow growth about the size of a bb,,,Whats going on??
Eye worm. It's prevelant in the southern United States.
This video shows how eyeworms can be removed.
I imagine that a dewormer like durvet strike III may possibly cure eye worms also.
If it is not eye worm then there are limited other options. Conjunctivitis - caused by ammonia fumes from wet or overused litter - causes blindness if left in the environment for too long.
Eye Flukes which are fairly uncommon and only surgically removed.
I have had gapeworms cause my chickens to have blistery eyes once. but that's very clear because they are constantly gaping open and struggling to breathe.
Have you checked their poop for worms? Has the litter been changed? is it dry? Is the chicken still eating? I am sorry for my unprofessionally vague response but I felt the need to try and help because of the lack of responses.
Ok, that's what that things looks like in her eye, so ill try that, but I cant figure out what is making her weak and dizzy, she eats and drinks thought, you have any idea about why she seems skinny and dizzy?
Sorry, most people suggest checking for worms, or mites. I have very little experience with illnesses. I know that casportpony has a ton of expertise on illness. You might go to emergencies/diseases & check out anything she has posted. I have learned exactly how little I know by reading her posts. Good luck with your hen.
