Helping a rooster get used to his house

Hey all, so we got a rooster last fall. Not by choice, he just showed up and is staying (we fell in love with him quick)
Gets along with our ducks too so all is well there.
Only concern is we free range them all and he won’t ever sleep in the ducks house so when the night comes he runs to the Forrest and sleeps in there.
So recently I built him his own house and finally today I managed to get him in there and shut the door. Would this be a good way to get him to know that is his house? Say if I left him in there for a few days?

Let me know your thoughts! Thanks :)

It might work. For sure, he needs a safe place to sleep at nigh
This is what I would try:
Give the rooster a few adult hens in the coop. He probably prefers them over the ducks. Lock them up together to get used to the coop. And start to let them free range 1 hour before sunset. See what happens
I was thinking it would be nice to get him some hens, how many would you think would be good in a fairly small house? I’ve also had someone tell me that drakes are dangerous around hens( I have one drake) Is this true?

Here’s a pic of his house, there’s a little roost bar in the and 2 side vents made of hardware cloth. And a side that opens too as well as the door

This coop seems really small for a flock. What are the dimensions? And how big is you’re rooster (in kilo)?
Yea it does seem a bit small for a flock, but some of the ones I’ve seen on google search are around the same size. Mine is about 2 feet tall by 2.5 feet long and about the same as width. If I do end up getting a larger flock I think I should build them a bigger home.
I’m not too sure how much the rooster weighs but here is a pic of him for reference

This might do for a sleeping area for a rooster. But not to accommodate a flock with a large breed.

If you like to start keeping a rooster with approximately 4 hens, you need to build a real coop imho. The prefabs are usually too small for regular-big size breeds. And there are often more flaws to it (poor ventilation/ low roosts).

Depending on how harsh you’re winters are and if it’s safe enough to let them free range you need more /less space.
Where in the world do you live?

Yeah fair enough, I would want them to have a nice life with lots of space too. Do you think if I added a replica of the one I have connected to it that would be big enough for a crew of 4?
I’m over in Canada

To answer your drake with chicken hens question is that yes, they should not be kept with them because their anatomy is different then a rooster and if they try to mate with a chicken they can cause injury or death.
