Me! I stood in the fabric section of Wal Mart staring at fusible stuff,, I had no idea there were so many kinds and I want to try and do an applique square. So I bought light to medium weight. Then I moved sideways about two feet and stood and stared at batting for the quilt I want to start today,,, yeah, ok, that's fluffy and soft, but that's thinner and tougher, but that is kind of like felt and that's more like cotton.... Sigh,, ask the sales lady,,, "I don't know,, I just cut the fabric and the table is marked,," so I bought some stuff that looked not too thick but not too thin,,
I went through every one of my 321 contacts in my cell phone and found only BYC members names that had eggs marked next to it,, not quilting,,,, I was actually going to call for help!

Hi Kate !

MY problem with shopping at WalMart is finding the Chicken Feed. (They move it every month ! )

I usually don't buy it there......I go to the Feed Store where they load it for me...Price is about the same.

The only thing I know about quilts is how to spread one on the bed.

Sorry, not much help (NONE).

I usually buy the stuff that is already cut and bagged. I use a poly batting. You can get low-loft- not real fluffy, med-loft about comforer loft, or high loft nice and poofy.

Most "traditonal" battings are cotton and you kind of have to quilt them closer together. Poly you can quilt 4-6inches a part.

Another option, which I do on a lot of my bigger quilts, is to use sheets. You would be amazed a how warm they actually are.

As for the bonding stuff, when I do use it, I use either Heat Bond or WonderUnder medium weight. Most times I just cut out the applique pieces and use a regular glue stick (yeah the kind the little kids use!) dab some on and place my pieces where I want them. You can reposition time if needed unlike the bonding stuff. Also they don't have that hardness, unflexibileness that can occur

mmm hmmmm,,,,,,,,, oooooooooooooK,,,,, I'm going to Hobby Lobby tomorrow too,,, and I saw a huge billboard in Las Cruces yesterday that advertises a Bernina Quilting store and has lessons and supplies. I'm going up there and check it out!
