I have 6 week old ckns passing blood .they been on 9.6 liquid corid 2 tsp in a gal water 4 days now i thought it was coccidiosis. One is in isolation wont eat or drink being hand fed. The others are eating and drinking. Sometimes they seem better with no blood sometimes there is. My questionS and concerns have i given meds right how long before better maye its not coccidiosis. Is there something else that will make them pass blood. Any help from others who been thru this. Thanks

You could try giving the Corid orally. Oral dose is .2ml per 2.2 pounds. Do you have a kitchen scale that you could weigh them on?

Read this and watch the videos:

You might possibly need something stronger if you are dealing with a particular virulent strain of coccidiosis. You have not given any vitamins with corid(amprolium)they should not given until treatment is complete.

Could some of the blood you are seeing be shed intestinal lining(this is normal)just thought i would mention this.

Yes i have a scale but they are under 2 lbs only 6 weeks old. When giving corid oral do i dilute with water or right out of bottle.

We gave vitamins to the isolated one she was so weak but we arent any more. Some of the blood was like runny and some was like mixed in with the poop. Thanks

Well we went with corid because sulmet they said was more harsh on them so should we put them on sulmet after corid its been 4 days if so how long should we wait thanks

If you could tell me how much the weigh I can give you an exact dose and you give it right out of the bottle.

Doses:

  • 100 gram chick gets .02ml
  • 200 grm chick gets .04ml
  • 300 gram chick gets .06ml
  • 400 gram chick gets .08ml
  • 500 gram chick gets .1ml
  • 600 gram chick gets .12ml
  • 700 gram chick gets .14ml
  • 800 gram chick gets .16ml
  • 900 gram chick gets .18ml
  • 1000 gram chick gets .2ml

Ad so on...

Corid is a very safe medication, so no need to worry too much about giving a little too much.

Since you have not gained results with the Corid (the blood goes away in 24 hours for me), I would try the Sulmet as it is effective on E. tenella according to this link I found:
http://www.millerhatcheries.com/Information/Diseases/coccidiosis.htm

I have never used Sulmet but the Corid doesn't seem to be working so I would switch to try something else.

Diagnosis charts at bottom- necrotic enteritis mentioned but I have never dealt with it.

I have always had the bloody poo go away within 24 hours of starting Corid. So if that happened to my flock I would try Sulmet for sure to see if that worked.
