Hen abanded the nest and now one of the abandoned eggs is chirping. Anything I can do?

I just came across your thread and was fascinated, partly because I harbor a secret desire to run away to Costa Rica. I'm glad the little chick made it out okay!

Please let us know what the name of the breed is if you can recall it. I like finding out about other countries' favorite chickens.

Well, I'm facinated by the fact it hatched. Could it be a serama? That is the world's tiniest chicken.
And think, you didn't get the house cleaned, but I am so certain that your amazing chick story and the fact it is the little boy's will blow everyone away and they won't care if the house looks like a tornado hit it!
Hope you keep up with BYC. I have learned so much here and touched base with so many nice people.
I'm Kim, by the way.

I took this one more picture. It's still not totally fluffy but it cools off so much at night I was concerned about the temp. So I took the chick and put it with the momma.. The momma fluffed right up and let the chick in so that seemed to go quite well. :) Praying I see a healthy chick with the momma tomorrow.

The chick was walking around well and has a HUGE mouth! Oh my goodness LOL.

I can't believe this egg hatched several hours after the momma abandoned it!

to the person that said get the other eggs, is there really hope for those? Those eggs should have hatched last Sat. at the latest and have been cold all day now.

They call it what sounds like hadenero. From what I can tell from googling I think it's most likely a type of bantem? The momma is about 1/2 the size (at most) of our red hens, the egg was about half the size of the other eggs. Run away to Costa Rica! We did that a bit over a year ago and have loved it LOL

I think if the other eggs were supposed to hatch Saturday, they are not going to make it, especially if they are cold to the touch.
Baby is looking WONDERFUL. I'm glad the momma took it. I thought she would. Fortunately, chickens can't count and right now she just wants babies to take care of. Since it is different from the other chicks, you will have an easy time checking on it and track how it is growing. Would love to know what the little boy's reaction is tomorrow.
Always love pictures........
Hope to see you more on BYC!!!! If there is anything you are curious about about chickens, put it in the search box and you will find so much information.
What do you do in Costa Rica and where are you from originally?

We are from Waco TX originally, we moved here about 1.5 years ago. We decided we wanted to try a back to the basics lifestyle and the climate of a tropical type area won out as we could garden year round. It's certainly been interesting but we are loving it!

That is a big move from TX to Costa Rica. I'm from Oklahoma and moved to Ohio! But at least you would be used to hot and humid.
I have heard of people hatching eggs in their bra too. My son is 12 and when I told him that he thought it was so funny so I had to tell him you put your baby in your bra!!!
