This morning I noticed one of my hens acting different, she did not come running for the BOSS, she was off by herself just kind of sitting around. Well that is not normal for her so I brought her in and put her in the dog kennel, boil some eggs and yogurt, gave her water. Well I just went to check her and she had a very soft shelled egg in there with her. Can that make a hen not feel well?? She ate the eggs and yogurt, and I have seen her drinking. My hen eat 20% laying crumbles, I have oyster shells and grit, and they have an acre to roam, she will be a year old in june.

When one of my hens lays a soft shelled egg, I consider it cause for alarm although not panic. Whenever something disturbes a hen, whether it is emotional or physical, they may respond with poor egg production of some sort.
Keep an eye on her, some thing has probably gone wrong or it also may just be a freak thing.
Usually time and good food fixes it in a couple of days.

I've had this happen with different hens at the beginning of a lying cycle or at the end....from what I have read, it is pretty uncomfortable for the hen to lay this soft egg. My last hen that did that stayed kind of hunkered over and sick acting for the rest of the day afterwards. She got over it and hasn't had another since then.
