Yesterday I found 1 of my hens dead in the coop. Thinking back on it, she had been acting a little strange and I haven't seen her too much lately. She has always been more of a recluse chicken though, so I didn't think too much of not seeing her around. There was bright green poop near her and on her, which would mean she either wasn't eating or she ate something gross/poisonous I think. She hasn't been laying eggs lately, my husband disposed of her before I could do a real check. They free range all day, get lots of tasty scraps and layer feed.
Today, I just found my 2 week old silkie dead in her brooder. She was fine yesterday and this morning, spunky as ever as far as I could tell. Should I take some kind of precautions? I have a bunch of babies inside in brooders and 7 more big chickens outside. If it was just the big hen I would think that it is just an isolated situation. Now I'm worried that it could be something going around..
I would love any advise that you might have. Thanks.
