I have 3 laying hens and 1 very old rooster who have the run of our fenced backyard during the day. One of the hens just got done (about a week ago) with her second round of broodiness in a few months. For the last 2 days she has been scratching and hiding in the back of a cat carrier that is on our porch and squawking loudly for an hour or so at a time. The rooster joins in with the squawking and they make quite the racket. She is a bit skinny and has some thinner patches of feathers from the brooding but otherwise looks healthy. Could she be in pain or just being a weird chicken?

Any

Any tips to prevent it? I'm worried she'll get sick from another round of brooding, she's already lost a decent amount of weight
I think @sourland is talking about she is going to start laying eggs again. So what is happening is the best thing to keep her from going broody again. I am going to tag someone who might have some good observational info on this kind of chicken behavior: @Shadrach is this something you have seen before?
