HEN ATTACKED BY RACCOON STILL ALIVE MISSING ENTIRE BEAK-HELP

Just went out to change my sprinkler around 8:45 and we caught the raccoon in a trap!!!! Ha, revenge! That is awful to say but I am ticked off. I won't say what I would like to do to him. I will let Darin deal with that. I don't think Sassy will make it through the night, she just seems to be getting more weak by the minute. Now when I go to check on her, she won't even look to see who comes through the door like she did before. I will keep praying though, she has made it this far after all.

most vets would give an antibiotic in a situation where animal bites are involved....I am just heartbroken for you and I personally would advise getting her to a vet ...an avian one :aww

i hope she makes it through the night! i thought that if you put some aspirin in their water it helps with the pain but i might be mistaken. keep us updated ok? i hope she is ok!

Oh man, what a shame...glad you got the blankety blank raccoon...
You can give baby aspirin dissolved in her water for the pain.
You may have to handfeed her to keep her strength up.
You will have to keep her warm and stress free. Do you just have the two birds? If so, I would bring the roo in too, because being alone may stress her also.
Beaks are very much like fingernails. there's the hard top layer that grows out with the quick or bed underneath. If the bed has been damaged, her beak may not grow back...
BUT you may be able to make a prosthetic beak for her if it comes to that...
Good luck and I have my fingers crossed for her.

imho, I commend you for not putting her down but instead giving her a chance. However, I hope you are feeding her since she can't do it herself. I would take starter feed, mix it with some hard boiled egg yolk, and a little plain yogurt and put little bits down her throat with tweasers. Yes, you can put 1 aspirin in, I think, a gallon of water and use that to water her, it will help with the pain. But she really needs fed to maintain her strength.

Sassy made it through the night!!!!!!!! She even walked a bit this morning; she is really weak and wobbly though. I have been feeding her every 4 hours pedialyte, baby cereal mixed with pedialyte and giving her a little Ensure. I hope that is enough?? We're using syringes to feed her and we feed her until she turns away and shakes her head at us. Bringing Spicy in was not a good idea, he jumped right on top of her immediately. He is so rough with her. He needs a few more hens to satisfy him apparently. I had to buy her a chicken saddle which I had never even heard of until searching the internet. Her little back was bare from his claws and he bites her head when he is having his way with her. Apparently this happens often or they wouldn't make saddles for them?? He is just a mess though. When we let him out of his pen in the morning he just goes from the front door to the back door crowing non-stop. She was his life, he just followed her around all day. This is soooo sad. At least we got the coon. We still have traps set because if there's one there's probably many more. We live right on the edge of town and since this happened to Sassy, we have heard that a little wiener dog and a cat have been killed by raccoons just in the last month. Anyway, just keeping you all posted. She is still hanging in there, seems to have a bit more sass in her today. Thanks for the aspirin advice, I'm going to go give her some now. Thanks to everyone for your kind words and advice. Pray for my girl!!!
