Hen attacking rooster

Around last week, my silver Polish male has started to show some aggressiveness. I was by the coop door when he started doing a semi circle strut around my foot. It almost looked like what I see him do before he mounts one of my girls, not to mention I had just read a post about a rooster mounting someone's sandal. I stood there laughing at him, wondering if my shoe was particularly sexy or if he was going to peck my leg. My golden Lakenvelder, Kashi, was on the other side of the yard and saw him doing this, ran over and proceeded to BEAT THE CRAP out of him! He let out a silly little squak and ran to the other side of the yard under a bush.

Since that, when I go out in the yard Kashi has been "escorting" me where ever I go. This morning, however, she was distracted by the scratch I had just thrown out. Spider Prince (the Polish) took this opportunity to try and attack me from behind as I was leaving the yard. Then I heard flap flap flap flap. It was Kashi running and flapping fast as she could to get to him before he got to me. Well, she got to him first alright and pecked him on the neck until he ran off. She stood there looking at me like, "Good job mommy?"

This to me is hilarious, and has me wondering - do your chickens act like this?

That is hilarious. I've never seen that. The only time my girls beat up the boys is when they get fresh with them, not with me. Kashi loves you

I had a hen beat the crap out of a rooster that was twice as big as her. She didn't take anything from him and kept him in his place. Its funny to see Big roosters getting beat by a small hen.

Is Kashi always going to be in the pen to protect you from Spider Prince or will they be separated when he gets older?

The only rooster I ever got rid of because of aggression was my Polish rooster from hell, Liberace. As a breed, Polish roosters are aggressive (there are exceptions). If he is already trying to attack you, it sounds like you have a problem...

He's only tried that a couple of times and has never actually come through with an attack. In fact, if I just hold my foot up to him he'll run off. I think it's some sort of macho act. He doesn't scare me at all. It may sound weird, but I really think it may have something to do with my shoes. I wore a different pair out there a few times and he totally ignored me. ??????? All my chickens free range in my yard all day together, so there's no pen.

The shoes in question are a pair of Croc-type cheapies from Walmart that are light blue with swirls of a darker blue all over them. I don't know what it is, but he seriously only seems to do that when I wear those shoes.

I had vicious roosters before. They were the "packing material" that came with my girls from Ideal. I had scratches and blood blisters from them biting my legs. They were REALLY mean, and eventually became dinner for my husband. Spider Prince is really a wuss at heart. Everything scares him. This macho thing seems to have started when he figured out the mating thing. I don't know what to think about it, except maybe to not wear that pair of shoes out there!
