Today (About 20 minutes before I posted this) a bobcat came by and was on top of the chicken run, it didn't hurt my hens but it did scare them quite a bit. One of my black australorps has a habit of wedging herself into a small space in the coop whenever any perceived predator comes around.
When I removed her from that space to assure her things were ok and that the predator was gone, I noticed that her beak was tinged red on the tip with blood. I checked her over and found no visible abnormalities or wounds The beak is not broken, but looks like there's some kind of abrasion/lesion inside towards the tip of the beak on the top. I believe she managed to hurt herself somehow in the panic since she gets real fussy. She's still a little freaked out and trying to hide, but when I brought her in the house to help her cool down, she's content with sitting in my lap and talking to me. She's licking at the blood and panting a bit, but I'm not sure if the latter is because of stress or thirst or another reason.
What do you suggest to treat this wound because it's been bleeding for a bit and I'm not sure how it happened or how to treat it/disinfect it?? Or is she somehow internally injured...? I've never encountered this and googling other things didn't really give me much info on anything, including how to treat it. I have only vetericyn at my disposal, but i don't know if it can be used IN the mouth or just around it...
I'm at a loss on what to do, so any home-remedy advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
