My hens always lay eggs in the coop in the nest boxes...this one out of the blue, laid her under the coop...way to the back...i saw the egg, went to get a rake to get it out...and she was sitting on it!!!! None have ever done that.

So now Ive removed the egg, and thinking...will this hurt her, will she stop eating?...will she look for the egg, or try to lay more and not get up??? Ive only put it in the refrig. about 10mins ago...should I let her sit on it, should I pull her? what do I do???

She is we thinka a blue orpington

I would have picked it up too. Do you have a rooster and do you want chicks? If she is broody, she will be sitting on her eggs all the time. If broody and you want chicks I would try to move her to a nest box where it is safe. You should know real soon if she is broody, because she will growl at you if you try to move her or her eggs. I got three brooies right now/ I love to see the chicks.

if see is broody she will squak, peck and have a bad attitude towards the other hens. She probably will try to protect the eggs and try her best to protect them. If you have a rooster she will lay eggs in order to reproduce. My best advice would be to buy some HATCHING eggs of the internet for the best brood. If you would not like to have baby chicks then move her away from her original nesting place to somewhere where she cant get back to it. Or put her somewhere with no eggs and a place with no nest, hay etc. Some people give them no food only water until they go of but i think thats cruel. If youre hatching eggs good luck
