We have just started getting eggs fairly regularly from our coturnix, 4 supposed females and 8 eggs in the past two days.
Yesterday I saw one of them lay, she was under a hide and she made a melodic little quiet almost keening call and I heard a little 'thump' of the egg hitting the cage floor and she turned around and looked at the egg that had appeared.
Since then every time I've heard this call from the hens and gone to look there has been a new egg. One hen in particular will sit with the egg for a while and keep singing to it with this same call.
I was wondering if anyone else has notice their quail making a particular call when they lay?
It's the prettiest little sound!
Cheers,
Jessie
