Hi Y'all,
I have a 2 year old hen who is standing off to herself, not eating or drinking, and whenever i go near her she makes this unnerving rattling sound. Also her face and wattles look grayer than usual. I'm worried. Does anyone have any clues as to what this might be? Also what are the common symptoms of gape worms? i'll prolly add more information and a picture later. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Do you have any pictures of her? How does her crop feel—empty, full, hard, doughy, or puffy soft? Is she gasping, coughing or sneezing? Any head shaking? Does she have any bubbles in either eye or swollen eyelids? She could have a respiratory disease, a crop that is not emptying, or possibly worms. If you can get SafeGuard liquid goat wormer or horse paste, give her 0.25 ml ( 1/4 ml per pound of weight) or 1.25ml for a 5 pound hen orally daily for 5 days. That treats gapeworm, which is a rare worm, and many other possible chicken worms.
